چکیده

A three-dimensional finite element modeling is developed using ABAQUS software. This includes riveted and rivet-bonded joints models. Both models undergo thermal heat caused by hot-driven rivet process and then are subjected to a constant velocity at one of its strip edges to simulate the shear tensile test up to the failure point. The developed FE models were based on elastic-plastic properties and ductile fracture limit criteria. In addition, the adhesive layer was modeled based on traction separation. Detailed experiments were conducted to evaluate these material properties and provide the FE developed models with these necessary data. The thermal stresses developed in riveted and rivet-bonded joints are assessed and reported. The present work shows that introducing an adhesive layer to riveted joints vastly reduces the stresses developed in these joints. In addition, the complete load-displacement curve for each joining model is obtained and compared with the finite element models without including the effect of thermal analysis. Index Term— Adhesive Layer, Load-Displacement Curve, Rivet, Rivet-Bonded, Thermal Stresses.

A Comparison Study on Various Finite Element Models of Riveted Lap Joint by the Use of Dynamic Model Updating

Till now, various models have been proposed in literature to simulate the behavior of riveted structures. In order to find the most accurate analytical method in modeling the dynamic behavior of riveted structures, a comparison study is performed on several of these models, in this research. For this purpose, experimental modal analysis tests are conducted on a riveted plate to verify the effic...

On the Influence of Riveting Process Parameters on Fatigue Life of Riveted Lap Joint

In this paper, influence of riveting process parameters, namely, riveting force, sheet thickness, friction coefficient and clearance fit are investigated on residual stress field and fatigue life of single riveted lap joint of AA2024 type. According to the effect of riveting induced residual stresses on fatigue life of riveted lap joint, these parameters are optimized to maximize the residual s...

Efect of Variations of Riveting Process on the Quality of Riveted Joints

This thesis presents a study of the effect of controllable riveting parameters, mainly squeeze force, rivet length, rivet diameter tolerance, hole countersunk depth and hole diameter tolerance, on the quality of formed rivet. The quality of a formed rivet is determined by the geometry of its head formation and the extent to which the hole is filled. The study determines maximum allowable tolera...

A Numerical Analysis of Riveted Lap Joint Containing Multiple-site Damage

The evaluation of stress intensity factors (SIFs) for cracks in mechanically fastened joints is one of the central issues in a damage tolerance analysis. Accurate stress intensity solutions may be difficult to determine due to geometric complexity along with variations in fastener load transfer and fastener interference and material thickness because of corrosion. Detailed finite element models...
